Know the limits. Not a linguistic tokenizer. Chinese and Japanese text without spaces is not split into words. Emoji sequences may count as multiple Unicode code points.

How it works

Leading and trailing whitespace do not add words. Blank input has zero words, characters and lines. The reading-time assumption is a configurable product convention, not a measured personal reading speed.

Words = whitespace-separated tokens
Characters = Unicode code points
Reading minutes = ceil(words ÷ 200)

The starter inputs above produce:

Words: 12

Change the inputs to match your own situation. The result is an estimate or text transformation, not a substitute for reviewing your source data.

A few useful details

Does this upload my document?

No. This release counts text in your browser and has no document-upload endpoint.

Why can another app show a different character count?

Apps may count UTF-16 units, Unicode code points or visible grapheme clusters. This tool counts code points.

Do I need an account?

No. This release runs without an account, API key or payment. Saving a favorite stores only the tool’s identifier in this browser, not your inputs.
